Chapter TwoA Chapter by MadMax760Chapter Two As I pulled my car into the long driveway I knew that only one thing would be awaiting me tonight inside my house; darkness. I parked my car, and grabbed my briefcase out of the back. When I stepped out of my car I grabbed my automatic lock key and pressed it till I heard my car doors lock. I strolled down the driveway, and grabbed my mail. As I glanced through all I could see was bills, bills, and more bills. I soon came across a letter that I didn’t recognize. The letter look odd so I pulled it out and decided that I would go ahead and open it first when I walked inside. I opened the door, and sat my briefcase down by the front door. I took off my jacket and placed it on the rack. I sat the mail down on the counter, and walked into the kitchen. I grabbed the bottle of scotch off the top shelf, and a little glass cup that sat beside it. I tossed in three ice cubes, and poured a cup of the scotch. As I took a sip I just thought about how good it was to finally be home. The thought about the letter popped back in my mind, and I decided that I would go ahead and open it now. I glanced over the letter and saw that it had no return label on it. All that it said was my name and address. I shook it a little just to see what could have possibly fit in such a small envelope. It didn’t weight much nor did it move a lot in the envelope. As I opened it, it appeared to be just a small little letter, “I’m back.” The letter didn’t make any sense to me, and I just glanced over it a few times. Soon I realized that it must have been either to the wrong person, or just one of those letters that people like to mess with others. Out of the poor humor of someone I made a toast to them. “Here’s to you, you sad poor little person.” I said as I raised my glass up. As I took my last sip of scotch I headed towards my bedroom. I couldn’t wait to just lay down for a little bit, and relax. It had been a long day at work, and I just wanted to sleep. I didn’t bother taking off my work clothes; I just laid strait down. I looked over at the clock which read ‘2:30 AM.’ My best decision at this time would have just too lie down and gone to sleep, but something about the letter kept me up. ‘I’m back.’ What could it have meant? As I looked at the clock as it changed to ‘4:45 AM’ I heard the phone ring. “Who the hell is calling me at this time in the morning?” I said out loud as if I wanted someone to reply to me. I sat up on the edge of the bed, and slicked my hair back from being so tired. As I walked over to the phone I was thinking about how I was going to kill whoever was calling me at this time. “Hello.” I muttered into the phone pretending that I had been asleep. “John, its Dominick. You need to suit up and meet me at the station. We’ve got a problem, and I could surely use your help.” He said over the phone. I could tell that he had been sleeping and was probably interrupted by another agent. “Dominick can’t it wait till the morning? I really am tired, and just want to go back to sleep. It’s been a long night.” I said back, but I knew I wasn’t going to get anywhere. “Yea that’s fine, get five more minutes of sleep and I’ll see you down here in fifteen minutes sharp.” Dominick said before hanging up. My head started trying to figure out what was so important that it couldn’t have waited a couple more hours. As I walked back to the bedroom to get changed I realized that where I had placed the letter that it wasn’t there anymore. I figured that I would just look for it later because it wasn’t all that important at the time. As I was driving down the interstate with my single federal light blaring I started seeing several sheriff cars, fire trucks, and even a few ambulances drive past me. I figured that whatever must have happened had to be bad so I sped up, and followed the cop cars. As I looked up in the sky I noticed a New Channel 13 helicopter flying above. “They waste no time do they?” I said to myself. As I pulled into the station I realized they had all the entrances and exits closed off. So I had to park where I usually park, and walk to the taped off section. “Badge?” One of the rookie cops asked me. I flashed him my badge, and he let me under the tape. As I walked over to the front doors I saw what just completely made me drop my mouth wide open. “Oh… my god.” I said to myself as I ran my hand through my hair. © 2010 MadMax760Author's Note
