Ancient Proof of Humanity

Ancient Proof of Humanity

A Poem by Michelle
"

The second of three poems for ADV Writ II.

"

Who was the first man to kill his own kin?

It was Cain, born from original sin.

Who was the broken brother that was slain?

Abel, loved by God, who was killed by Cain.

Who was punisher of this heinous kill?

A furious God who cursed Cain’s free will.

What was the reply of the jealous son?

“It was for the love of my Holy One.”

What more could a desperate man exclaim?

“How could You not love me and him the same?”

What was the judgment for the tragic one?

To suffer in exile beneath the sun.

Where is the curséd Cain roaming about?

In a desert where none can hear him shout.

Where is the proof of his brother who’s dead?

A brand of the Fallen upon Cain’s head.

Where are the enemies in banishment?

Those who harm Cain get ten-fold punishment.

How could a gracious God choose between two?

He loved both, but a penalty was due.

How could Cain kill for the Lord’s approval?

He was desperate for warmth eternal.

How does the Cursed plead his case to the sky?

“It was for Your love, that many should die.”
