Chapter (103) NIGHT THOUGHTS

Chapter (103) NIGHT THOUGHTS

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

Into the dark void of night

I close my eyes and see the blackness that lies there.

Is this what awaits us after death.

Thoughts of my mortality, I’m not young anymore

my future will be brief.

I still feel the grief of my own fathers passing.

I see him sitting in his chair watching the horse’s race,

I see the smile on his face when he picks a winner.

I see him working in his shed turning bits of wood into art.

A wheelbarrow, a wishing well, a gypsy cart.

All made with love and caring, sharing his skill and time

To bring some happiness to others.

I’m a grandfather now, but how can I be all that I want to be?

Can I be as good as my father?

If, as children growing, we understood how brief a life will be

Would we still play foolish games?

Sleep eludes me again as I lay in the dark

listening to the cleansing rain and I try to reconcile my life.

Wow, those are heavy thoughts. I lay awake at night too and in my own way I can relate. Why should feel so much in a life that is so ephemeral. I don't know. This was very touching.

Thank you Nila. I've not been writing much lately and I have time to think about my mortality.

It suddenly comes home that no-one lives forever.

crosses my mind every now and then
Nostalgia seems to trouble a human being at every stage in one's life.
When we are young we look back at our childhood.
When we are old we look back at our youth and childhood too.
I liked this poem, it was true and reflects honesty. You have very well described the thoughts that makes you sleepless, thank you very much for sharing this.
