Chapter (2) AN ELEPHANT SAT

AN ELEPHANT SAT

Ellyphina was sat, on a large bamboo mat,

by the edge of a crystal blue pool.

She Said, "My ears are too big, and my tail’s like a twig,

and my nose makes me look like a fool."

 

Then she gave a great sigh as she started to cry,

and her tears they splashed on the ground.

When out of the blue, she heard a YOO HOO

and saw her best friends standing round.

 

Sid the Snake slithered in with his green shiny skin,

He said, "I’ve no legs but it’s really alright.

I can climb up the trees without any knees,

And hide in the leaves out of sight."

 

"Look at me." said Giraffe, "I make children laugh,

my long tongue juths flapth all around.

And my legths are tho long, that they're not very thtrong,

while my head ith too far from the ground."

 

"I don’t know." said the bear, who'd stopped just to stare.

"We all have our faults don’t you know,

I live in the trees, but flowers make me sneeze,

and my feet get so cold in the snow."

 

Young Hippo stepped in, with his very large chin,

Said " I really was scared of the river."

"Now I really am glad that I'm no longer sad,

but the cold water still makes me shiver."

 

So Ellyphina sat on her large bamboo mat,

and smiled as her big ears flapped.

Then in front of the crowd, she trumpeted loud,

and they cheered and some of them clapped.

 

Her tail then flicked at a fly passing by,

she put her trunk in the pool without thinking,

"You see." Said a bird. "Your trunk's not absurd,

It's a really a cool tool used for drinking.

 

When her drinking was done, she said " let's have some fun."

Her friends said, "Let's play in the park",

So they frolicked away for the rest of the day,

playing games until it was dark.

 

She'd had so much fun, with her friends in the sun,

and the day had ended too soon.

So she curled up tight, in the silvery light,

as she slept in the glow of the moon.
