Chapter (14) BEHIND MY CLOSED EYES

Chapter (14) BEHIND MY CLOSED EYES

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

BEHIND MY CLOSED EYES

Behind the dark green and black of my closed eyes

I watch the swirls of colour flick and fade.

My thoughts making me afraid

of the fitful sleep to come.

Memories, some I don’t want to recall, invade my head,

I wish they’d go away.

Wish they’d give me a day without pain.

Most of them I try to forget,

some of them,

a few of them.

When the night comes I know they will return.

She is still there, still invading my thoughts,

still holding me,

behind my closed eyes.

I think you need to say to brain - "Brain! If you don't get some nice movies on that frickin' dream-screen then it'll be YOU who suffers - not ME!"
I had horrible sleep for ten years - kept waking up just as I nodded off - pure torture - I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
I feel for ya M.E.M.
Great work!

Thanks for this wonderful comment.
Honest and real thoughts in the words. Hard to hide memories that appear in dreams and the midnight hour. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thank you my friend. As I get older I guess my mind wants me to remember things, good and bad.

You are right. Bad and good make us wiser or maybe foolish? You are welcome.
such a nice poem. It's very hard to forget the past because some day or the other the past will repeat.
"When the night comes I know they will return."
this line was totally relatable!
excellent!

Thank you dear Shadowine.
Beautifully written. Some memories are achingly familiar, and repetitive. Sleep only makes them more prominant
