Chapter (12) ALL THAT I HAVE

Chapter (12) ALL THAT I HAVE

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

ALL THAT I HAVE

It’s that time again, that time of the year,

That time we’re meant to be grateful and be full of good cheer.

So I’m sat here,

Contemplating my life, contemplating all that I’m supposed to be grateful for.

I’m in the winter of my life, living alone, no wife.

Been married twice, as a husband I was pretty bad,

but both wives told me I was a great dad.

When I was young I could run for hours keeping fit,

Now I just grow flowers and sit, watching TV.

I used to make love from dusk ‘till dawn,

Now, I get tired and sad just mowing the lawn.

As a chef I cooked fine meals, drank fine wines, loved to eat,

Now, with my stomach, I can’t drink, can’t even see my feet.

I’ll have to work until I drop,

Not to mention I have no savings, no pension,

no fallback position, no chance to stop.

So I’m sitting here wrapped in a blanket because my house is so cold.

It’s not much fun when you’re getting old.

I’m smiling though when I think of my kids and my life filled with love.

Besides, loads of people have been on their skids.

There have been adventures in other lands,

other hands held mine as we walked and talked and laughed.

I’ve loved, and been loved, by two of the most beautiful women I ever met

And like many others, thought my life was set.

But things change.

And so,

I am grateful for all that I have, and I’m glad

Because now, I've become

A Grand dad.

Many thanks Shadowine. I'm trying a new type of poetry. Not so comical.
it sneaks up on you slowly, you never think about it
life changes drastically ,you`re alone hardly any visitors

Yup. Old age can be a lonely place. I'm lucky I guess, I got great kids and good friends.

I enjoyed reading this piece
i guess when life becomes a tricky little riddle
one must look within
and find gratitude in the simplest of things
like good health
