Chapter (22) FIGHTING

Chapter (22) FIGHTING

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

FIGHTING

A Mother, loving her sons, shouts.

The boy punches his brother.

A young couple stand before the priest

and vow.

The man hits his wife, this is her life now.

Clandestine love in a cheap hotel, shared,

No-one cared.

A woman, stoned to death her only crime, to love.

Politicians on a stage, insult, berate, debate,

Bullets fired, killing, filled with hate.

Gloved fists flying, bikini clad girls, crowds cheering.

Advertising sells, swells the commerce pocket.

From the skies another rocket falls indiscriminate,

Another mother cries, holds her dead child.

The surgeon sweats, saving lives his skill,

A corrupt government uses a barrel bomb,

Their aim, to maim, to kill.

Pushing, rushing in the supermarket sales

to get the best price.

Tiny hands scrabble in the dirt for grains of rice.

When was fighting ever the solution?

Long live the revolution.

it will my friend, but will we
It seems to be in the nature of our species to be greedy and violent. Tis the old puzzle. Did the Arab Spring - good - lead to Syria - bad? Good = bad? Are revolutions ever the solution? We had one in 1649, yet only a decade on it was reversed. Hmm, so how do we stop fighting? Not getting involved is one option. But then the best fighter just beats everybody into submission. But if we get involved in Syria that may mean a direct fight between the Russia and the US. Hmm. Anyone for politics?! Is fighting addictive in some odd way? Do we actually need to do it? Sport seems to be a good substitute for war, but then when you consider how that corrupts as the drive to be the winner, the top fighter drives people to cheat. Hmm, yoga anyone?! Maybe the wisest people are too wise to fight the fighters. We still worship and reward those who fight as great men. Perhaps they are. But not in the fight for survival. Hmm, I'm in knots - again.
