Chapter (2) A MAN

Chapter (2) A MAN

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

A MAN

My boy, well he is to me.

He's not a boy, I know, he's grown.

He has a life and home of his own

with Raven, as a couple.

They don't know the pride we feel

His parents, to see them in love,

to see them settled.

In my grandfathers day he'd say "well fettled"

Aye, they are well fettled.

He's had some troubles in his life

But I hope one day this girl will be his wife

She is now in all but name

But to me

It's not quite the same.

Call me old fashioned and dull

But with my boy my life is full

Of happiness and joy,

to see my boy,

A man

He rang today, unexpected, but nice,

I should have guessed he'd want advice,

He said, "I think the washing machine went wrong."

Hard to believe, they've not had it long.

He said. "The dial says to wash at thirty

It's enough for us our clothes aren't dirty.

It's seems too hot, and it shifts the dirt

Raven thinks that's why it shrank her shirt."

He said. "I've had a look..."

That put a worry in my head.

"...and should the hot be Blue or Red."

"The label says Cold Water in, but we got hot, is that a sin?"

That will be it, I said Impressed

But don't go meddling yet I stressed.

Turn off the valves both red and blue

They're on the pipes in front of you.

"Okay dad." was all he said, then click,

The worry persisted in my head.

My boy has grown gentle and tall,

but above all

he's wise beyond his years.

Oh there were times his mother and I, we had our fears

For him, we shed our tears and will again.

Now I look at him and I fill with joy,

My little boy,

A man.

To be “well fettled,” gentle and wise… Isn’t that what we all hope for our children?

He brings me joy everyday. He's a dad himself now and I love to watch him with his tiny child.
I have a son of 20 and I fear for him as he does not find his way in life. I wish I could also fill with joy but I guess I need to have faith in him.

I like your poem.

Watching them grow and blossom is the best thing in the world, though when they do fly the nest, there is always an emptiness left behind. My son Charlie is nine now, a fair way to go, but the thought often looms large in my mind.

Though the road be sometimes rocky, with family help and guidance, our children eventually find their feet.

Loved this.

Beccy.

Thanks for reading. He's a great lad and has found a super lady to share his life with.
I can relate, as my "little boy" has entered his last year of college. We will always care for them, and our joy is truly immeasurable to see the man they've become!
