Chapter (31) AIRCREW. Tears are in my eyes.

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN
"

WRITTEN AS A TRIBUTE TO BRAVE 90 YEAR OLD LADY I MET THIS MORNING. 28/09/2014

"
AFTER A CAR HOME START THIS MORNING I HAD TO WRITE THIS.
I HOPE YOU WILL LIKE IT. I CALL IT:

AIRCREW.

I had a job this morning
To fix a ladys' car.
One of the last, of the few
Who fought the last great war.

Standing in her drive way
Tears are in my eyes,
As she recalls her memories
Her eyes turned to the skies

She tells of crews in Lancasters
Their job to light the way.
Bomb on the green, Pathfinder cries
And they did it night and day.

She tells of men so bold and young
These selfless boys so brave.
No thoughts of why they do this
On their journey to the grave.

The Merlin engines throbbing drone
Transport these crews through cloud,
For many their last, most costly flight
In a flying metal shroud.

It was an honour for me to meet
This aged woman brave.
And we should still salute them all
For the sacrifice they gave.

Thank you so much
The young men of Royal Bomber Command were the finest of their generation. So were the men of the 8th army air corps. The attrition rate for both was staggering. The public couldn't take figures like that now or the civilian casualties. Imagine applying casualty figures on the scale of some of Royal Bomber Commands bigger raids over Germany to a conflict today. It would be grotesque beyond all measure. A lot of young people today don't understand just what a monster WWII was. Just the raid on Dresden alone could rival modern casualty rates. Thank God our side won and we didn't tangle with the Red army in the aftermath. That would have been a disaster

I agree entirely. Even my own son has a problem understanding why I get so passionate about WWII.
Great tribute to veterans

Very honorable tribute to the veterans who fought so bravely. Beautiful sentiment. May all of the world's soldiers be blessed for their dedication to their country.

Yes, I think we should all salute them. My father was in the Air Force in World War II.

This lady was one of four still alive from that air base. Such history that is never written down.
This is an amazing tribute, what a wonderful homage to pay to those who sacrificed all and those who remain behind, you should have her read this one Clive.

Thank you . I was lost in the moment with this wonderful lady.
Love this one. I've listened to many stories from folks who fought in WWII. I think most people don't realize, once they start on of their stories, it sort of pours out of them; they're lost in that time again while they tell the tale, right there again, back with their companions now long gone. I've always rather wondered if I was the only person who ever saw this. You're poem shows me I'm not the only one.

NOTE: correction:
To fix a [lady's] car.
