EARTH LOSS

Through the grieving valley a failed river flows

Where, no longer, man nor beast is seen.

Beside the troubled waters an ancient tree still grows

not now strong, nor straight, and crown of feeble green.

Bare branches, weakened, the winter frosts festoon

Till spring brings hope and twiglets show their lessening shoots of green

Summer days too hot do make the leaves to swoon,

and winds do scatter autumns colours across the scene.

No birds build nests between her leaves,
no insects for pollen search, no mice nor even fungus slime.
She stands alone and in mountains' shadow grieves
while once green earth, ravaged, rotates in space and time

She is the last, earths' memorial to times gone by

Mans' greed had caused the earth to bare this cross

Like ancients prayer, her arms outstretched towards the sky.

And the mountain groans incomparable loss

The darkness add great emphasis the story within. There is great power amongst each line. Very well done.

Thank you for reading and a great comment.
This is wonderful social commentary, Mother Earth is tearing up in your poetic words. Such a stark reality, sad, and we're all to blame...

A severe loss indeed dear poet. It will affect all of us. Then we have to build our memorial too after that. Excellent...:)....

Yes it's been changed quite a lot. I think it's much better now.
Wow, I totally loved the way you captured me with that first line right up until that last one :) Could you please review my latest? Thanks :)

Awesome! Seems that line caught more than one fellow poet's fancy. I think it's been about half the members who've answered the challenge so far have chosen that line.
