Chapter (19) THE IDEA OF EATING

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

    THE IDEA OF EATING

Bread is the staff of life,

                       but not my wifes' idea.

Rice , pasta, potatoes in all their forms

piled plate upon plate my toes disappear.

Once was, the whole of my feet

                       visible from above

but love of food changed perspective.

I dream of toast with butter melting

my supper crumpets holes filled with pastes

Sweet hot tea that soothes my craving.

I hate this diet the pangs of hunger

how much longer must I suffer.

The clocks tick by in endless repetition

                       I feel empty.

How long is it now since doctors orders.

The clock and I face to face

                       can I win this race.

                       I shout at her,

" you're my wife not my mother"

                      she replies

"it's only been an hour, try to do another."

Ah you capture the ambrosia of the stuff of foods that make the mouth water. Reality can really bite...the last lines made me smile.

So glad you liked it.
Reminds me of a song I wrote as a joke for a friend once, and it ended up being a pretty awesome song. It was called "Fancy Cheese." Lol

Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it.
Doctors don't know anything when it comes to diets. Deprivation isn't good for anybody. I fed my husbands healthy meals, and they both passed away, and it had nothing to do with diets.
