Chapter (20) JUST ANOTHER TEENAGER

Chapter (20) JUST ANOTHER TEENAGER

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

JUST ANOTHER TEENAGER

Saturday afternoon the phone rings

Got a job mate, you good to go ?

So I start my truck and leave the yard

Quite worried about this snow.

I arrived on scene to a bashed up car

Can't even tell its make.

It's plain to see it's gone too fast

A frozen corner tried to take.

Ambulance, and medics there

Police stand by and wait

When

A doctor comes to talk to us

And tells us it's too late.

I hate this job at times like this

Thank god it happens rare.

If only they would train our kids

In snow to drive with care.

Just me here now to drag it out

On a lonely country lane.

I try to think of other things

As I attach the chain.

The wreck, now pulled on the lorry bed

And strapped safe as I can make it

I think about my own son.

I know I couldn't take it.

I never drive on ice, and where I live it isn't necessary. Someone has to clear up the wreckage, and it must be hard.

So very tragic… such a burden placed on those who have to clean up the remains of wasted potentiality…

It, frankly, terrifies me to to think of my son taking the wheel…
