Seeing your Ex

Seeing your Ex

A Stage Play by ThinMac
"

Just something I thought off right after watching a video about how would people talk to their ex.

"
8 am. Moving boxes from a house and into the back of a SUV under the unrelenting heat of July's summer.
I was almost done packing. I had just gotten a ob as an editor the studio I was applying for. Getting ready to move into the apartment I bought just near it. As I was about to unload another box into the back of my jeep I felt a light tap on my back.

"Hey!" It was Julie. "Its been a while hasn't it?" My ex-girlfriend.
The usual perky girl. Wearing her jogging wear, Tight elastic leggings (this time blue) and a long white tank top. Every weekend she would lap our neighborhood.

"Morning." I looked at my watch "We- I mean, you usually start at 10. Whats with the early bird?"
Pointing at the house next door.
"Ms. Kathern?" I had to pause for a while until I remembered "What do need a child psychologist for? Don't tell me..."
Julie just sighed. It looked like she was hoping for a better solution to her problems.

"Jake has gotten into another fight." After a long pause she looks behind her "I'm supposed to meet mom and Jake later to see Ms. Kat at 9:30. So I'd thought I'd get here a bit early. So it looks like you finally got the job huh?" She said while eyeing the SUV full of boxes.
"Ya. I really wish I could do something for Jake. Thought I fixed him straight to."
"Me to. You two were like brothers. Heck, you were more of a sibling than I am, and I'm his sister. But you know, with dad tearing families apart etc. Especially when his just 10 years old. News does travel quick here. Especially at his school for some reason..." Looking at the open back of the SUV. "Can I sit? I'm about to melt under this heat. I've still got half an hour till they get here"
After I brought 2 bottles of Sprite from my kitchen I sat down next to her under the shade of my SUV's back door.

"Thanks, but I brought my own." Pulling out a bottled container that was hanging from her waist she began gulping down its contents. "So, anything else new after these past few months?" 44
"Well, I've started a Youtube channel." Her eyes went wide with the comment "Really?" She asked.
"Yup, making my "books" into animations and uploading them there. People seem to really like it. Even if each episode went 2-4 mins long. I did have to cut short on the story though. But I've gotten a bit of fame since the first video." It was a bit embarrassing to admit but I was able to get the kind of fame where only luck would give. But I never mentioned it to her.

"I've always told you how good a writer you are! I'm really proud of you."

And I can tell she really was. But I can't feel the same for myself somehow...

"How about you?"
"Aside from my brother needing professional help. Nothing much." After a long pause "I just wish... could you maybe, speak with him? Before you go? It would mean a lot to him. And me. He really hates the idea of seeing Ms. Kat. At least talk him into it."
"I'll try."
"Thank you. Well, back on topic. As a wedding/party planner there isn't much going on the middle of summer as you can see. As if people would want to get married under this kind of heat. The boutique isn't doing well either. Had to let at least 2 people go since business isn't big right now. But I did have some time to draw out some new wedding dress sketches. My book is almost full now. I bet I have every kind of taste for every woman! If only there was a wedding right now to actually use my dresses."
I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. Not only because of her business but Jake to. Ever since we met, she's been family this, boutique that. But somehow, we were able to get pass that have... a relationship. We'd met every morning when we have the time. I'd drive her to her boutique on the weekdays, hang around until I had to go to my part time. Then come back to pick her up. We'd talk for an hour in each drive. We'd share our life, who we are, our family, and we'd always enjoy every conversation. We had fights. But we always end it with an "I love you."

"Hey, is that them?" I pointed at the blue Sedan heading towards us

"Yup. Lets go say hi."
Julie's mom greeted me with a hug and I greeted Jake with a high-five. He was looking more depressed as usual. Whenever we meet he'd always be energetic. As promised I talked to him. He had a fight at school, it was the usual reason, his father. He had a huge cloth wrapped around his forearm. I didn't ask how he got it. After a few minutes of talking he was back to his energetic self and agreed to meet with Ms. Kathern, the child psychologist.

As I saw off Jake and his mom head towards Ms. Kathern's. Julie moves herself on my eye level "Good luck with your job alright! Contact me on Facebook when you have the chance!"
Caught off guard, Julie plants a kiss on me then jogs towards Ms. Kathern's house. "Thank you. For everything!"
I can never find any words like those, as painful than anything.
