Leaving The Nest

Leaving The Nest

A Poem by Mara
"

A bird watches and times passes

"

Blue bird sitting,
Weightlessly,
On the white
Picket fence.

Watching the family
Touch and kiss,
Feed and embrace.

Watching Dad's beard
Grow grey,
Mom's eyes
Begin to fade,
Tommy voice
Start to deepen
And Suzy bosom
Begin to blossom.

The children soon
Do leave,
Infants return
In their place
And blue bird
Yet remains.

On the day Dad dies,
And mom moves away;
On the day
We sell out home,
Only blue bird
Lets us leave

His soft little face
Says,
"I do love you"
without a complaint
Or peep.

And we loved him too,
Without favor
Or gift.
Without touch
Or embrace.

The kind of love
That need not speak.
