Journals of a Southern Gentleman (Part 5)A Story by Mackenzie Brookea history projectDear Journal
May 12th 1864
On this day I Rory McFinnigan am going into possible the most deadly battle of my life, and I highly doubt my chances to survive. So I treat this journal entry as my last words.
To my mother and father, thank you for raising a boy into a man. To y fellow soldiers thank you for standing with me in the hardest trails of our lives.
To my darling wife Annabelle. May God bless you graciously for all your life. May you not cry a single tear over me because such a lovely face should not be spoiled over petty tears.
Finally to my daughter Iris. I can only imagine the young lady you would have become. I can only hope that you would grow to be like your mother. Until we meet in heaven my little Iris know that I love you with all my beating heart.
Sincerely, Rory McFinnigan © 2012 Mackenzie BrookeAuthor's Note
