Somewhere in Between

Somewhere in Between

A Poem by MacieLogan

We’re all in this dream, walking for miles

on top of crystal clear beautiful water.

But there’s something keeping us from it.

We’re so thirsty, all we want, all we need

is that water just under our feet.

So we’d do anything to have it.

We stomp, we jump, we fight

just to get to it.

We lay down still pounding on the floor,

near death from dehydration,

then all of a sudden we get to it

we fall through and drink until we

want to explode. So busy

taking in what we so badly needed

we fail to notice that we’re now on the other side

of that wall, now trapped under the water we

wanted so badly.

Our thirst is quenched

but now we need air. Whatever it is

keeping us from it, we can’t see it,

or feel it, grab it, or hold it. It’s not tangible yet we

still know it’s there, and we hate it.

Our lungs fill with that beautiful water.

The thing we once thought would be the one thing

to save us, is now killing us.

It seems like forever, and just before we

slip away, we break free. The barrier disappears

and suddenly we’re floating, free to drink or breathe

as much as we need. As much as we want. Blissfully

splashing and smiling now able to finally go on without

worries. That’s what we’re all fighting for. That peaceful place

somewhere in between.
