Dog-eared DreamsA Poem by MachinaWriterI dreamed beneath the shade of an old oak tree; where it was safe, and free, and beautiful where there was everything I’d need.
I dreamed that I rolled on hills of grass next to childhood friends; where we would watch the others and we would laugh, like lovers who think it’ll never end.
I dreamed that we built a fort, of planks and nails and sticks; then dreamed it was a castle, made of iron and stone and bricks.
I dreamed I skid my knee and watched it bleed; but a gentle hand, with a gentle care, put on the bandage I didn’t know I’d need.
I dreamed I held the hand of my first crush; as we tried to catch lightning in little jars, on a trail by a little creek, while I wanted to ask if we were going too far …but, in my dream I couldn’t speak.
I dreamed I found a friend while peering into the dog-eared pages of another world; a friend who showed me castles and wise sages, and how a firefly is like a girl.
I dreamed I read a book where I lived and learned and loved; now it sits on a lonely shelf, and I’m wondering if a dream was all it was. © 2015 MachinaWriterAuthor's Note
