Sisters & Brothers

Sisters & Brothers

A Poem by MachinaWriter
"

Something to think of during the holiday season...

"

Be a sister to your brother

and if you’re with her

brother be kind like no other.

Be a mother to your children

and kids remember to love her

she’ll need you again

and you’ll soon then discover

the reason she held you

and tucked you under the covers.

Be a friend to your neighbor

and then you’ll begin

to have your neighbor’s good favor

you’ll need him at the end.

Be a lover to your lover

and a sister to your brother

and brothers remember

to treat them all like your mother

and if we do this

there won’t ever be another

Christmas without family

and family without hope

no more suicide winters

at the end of a rope

no more days filled pain

and nights filled with tears

we’ll hold laughter and eggnog

not regrets and warm beers.

Be a father, a friend

not another man to defend

on why he’s not home

and your kids are alone

be a man to your woman

be a reason not an excuse

be a smile and a grin

           and don’t ever lose

your hope around those

who need you to be strong

be a rock in the sea

so you’re family will see

that the world moves along…

Hold them close like a lover

nurture like a mother

be strong like a father

to one another

be kind like a sister

and protect like a brother

be their blanket and cover

and just love one another.

Laugh like a friend

and in trouble begin

to keep mind like a mentor

and keep love at your core

and out of all the above

remember this thing

in what ever you do

let it be love that you bring.

The best kind of uplifting sentiments... you inspire hope and love in us all... I love the rhyming too... Tupac-esque! This is how poetry can be so enriching, thank you.

Very lovely piece to keep in mind during the holiday season, and during any other time, as well. Too bad most people don't think this way, I feel the world would be a much better place. What we would give to live in that city inside of our own head, right? Beautiful, thought provoking piece, here - as always, I'm impressed. x

Wow! Beautifully written.. I find the reason of this poem is love for your family? I love my family... And they are there for me everytime I need them.
Loved this stanza:
"Hold them close like a lover
nurture like a mother
be strong like a father
to one another
be kind like a sister
and protect like a brother
be their blanket and cover
and just love one another."

It's like you wrote my thoughts!! Going in my library :)
