Spanish Lullaby

Spanish Lullaby

A Poem by MachinaWriter
"

A poem outside of my normal style...

"

The soft, caramel coating

of paint faded on the walls

glows with the ever faint

light of the morning’s call,

through uncurtained windows

letting in the breeze

that gently seizes my soul.

Rumpled, white sheets

cast across your form

still asleep

dreaming of things,

you seem to sing

with every heavy breath.

Last night’s gentle cries

have faded to our minds

as spanish lullabies

singing of love

and passion still deep,

I still have yet to sleep,

my cigarette neglected,

ashen as I think.

In our small flat,

of barren pieces,

coffee pot, flower pot

all the things

we have not bought,

I’m content.

Happy with the one thing

fate has sent.

The less of those things,

the more of you I get.

Allowing for mornings

where I can sit

smoking as I stare

out across the patio

without worry or care.

The Spanish strings

of a band at the distant café

sings of things

and though I can’t say I understand

-everything they play,

I think they’re singing of you.

You stir beneath your sheets,

and smile when you wake,

eyes glistening like the sea

smiling for my sake.

Stretching

as you rise from the bed

and instead

of putting on the dress,

-still laying on the floor,

you wrap the sheets around you

and with me watch the shore.

No television,

no curtains on the window.

Just a coffee pot,

a flower pot

and all the things we never buy.

Just you and me

a view of the sea

and the sounds of a Spanish lullaby.

I think you've captured in the faintness of a moment... a hint of divinity, where you know everything is as it should be. the essence of spanish lullaby is in the romance... for the world, love, freedom.. whatever your heart fancies.. I imagine paco de lucia and flamenco dancers on the street. beautiful writing.

I love the picture that you give in this poem. It sounds wonderful. Calm. It's so easy to read and so easy to love. I love the last three lines. Very good. ^^

~ circe said it way better than i ever can... you've re-created 'the atmosphere' beautifully... meaning it's not just the scene... but everything else... including all the music in the air and around... very intense poetry... which is really skillfully written... your words just flow and flow and flow... ~ excellent work...

This, my writer friend, is wonderful. You should write like this more often. That first stanza--beautiful! It kept my breath paused on my tongue as I relished the imagery. Just, yes. Yes, I think you've stumbled upon the right skipping stone.

Thank you so much ^^
Actually, I think this is pretty amazing. You have some great lines and ideas and clearly communicate the 'love conquers all' theme. I like the way the Spanish lullaby imagery is weaved through the piece along with the less is more idea.
'The less of those things,
the more of you I get....'
Tis truly pause for thought as we race around to consume in this technological, highly timetabled world of ours...?
