UprisingsA Poem by MachinaWriterA continuation..I’m locked in this
prison, -like an animal’s
cage. And I’m in my final
stage, -I’m turning the
page. Because there isn’t
a prison in hell, -that could contain
my rage. You see me coming? I’m uncontrollable. Don’t even try and
stop me, -I’m inconsolable. I was born chained, I’m an escapee. And I swear to you,
-I’ll stay free. In this brutal war,
-I’m a draftee. But my gun’s
cocked, -so test me. I’ll die first,
before you arrest me. I didn’t volunteer, I was volun-told. But the mark of a
man, -is to take fate
and fight bold. We don’t deal our
cards, -but we can play
the hand. And when the world
gets hard, -we can take a
stand. For you, -and for me. And all those in
the pursuit, -of happiness and
liberty. Because it’s a
chase. Seeking happiness, -but it’s the right
of the human race. So chain me with
your doubts, -and lock me in
your hate. But the key I need,
is inside me -and freedom is my
fate. I won’t be marked
down, -by all you little haters, -I’ll be built up
by Liberators. And the start of
this war? When did we decide
as a people, -we weren’t taking
this anymore? When did we open
the door, -to a revolution? To an uprising? To the resolution
that we have to stop hiding? Was there a spark? Was there a person -to light a fire in
the dark? We all know the
tale of the man sacrificed, The one who gave
his life, -and yet despite
the knife and the hanging noose, Decided to let
loose the news, -that we need to
choose. Liberty? Or death by never
living free? So yes, we’ll stop
hiding. We’ll start
fighting. And in the bowels
of war, -we’ll start
writing. Because only by the
pen, -can we start
deciding. Is this a
revolution? Or an uprising? The difference? One’s just a turn
around, -the other a
complete rinse, Of the lost and
found. An uprising implies
an UP, A revolution’s just
the emptying of the cup, -but we need to be
filled. We need to move
skyward, -and by our word,
be healed. So yes, I’ll keep
the pen. Keep the ink
flowing, -keep to what’s
within. And I’ll remember
the words, -spoken by the man
sacrificed: “Veni, vidi, vici! -I’m set free!” I can only hope,
that we see The right way, -to use our
Liberty. © 2012 MachinaWriter
