Stay Strong

A poem...

I have an intrusion

-of thoughts where I’m losin’

My mind to this illusion

Of peace within the confusion

But I’m choosin’-to stay calm

And amidst the storm I’ll stay strong

I’ve been pissed for too long

I’ve lost my mind, its long gone

 

But I’ll attempt to regain

My sanity- I’m insane

And if you don’t listen to half my words

At least retain,

These next few lines, in your brain

They’re here to save lives, and cease pain

 

In life, we’re all soldiers

fighting against death-we grow bolder

And if you have someone special- you better hold her

Cuz the second you lose your composure

-those may be the last words that you told her

And your life will be much colder,

 

Without her there to keep you warm

And you’ll find yourself caught in a swarm

Of plagues and sorrow

And you’ll wake up each day, hoping tomorrow

It’ll be the end, cuz you live on borrowed

-time. And borrowed sanity.

And you plan to see, the end of this calamity

Called your life.

Whether it’s through someone else,

-or your own knife.

 

So if something is special, keep it close.

Cuz everyone in this world knows,

How fragile we all are,

-but love is eternal, and it’ll take you far

to realms further and grander than any star.

 

So give me the storms, give me the rain.

Give me the sorrow, give me the pain.

I may appear troubled, but I’m not insane.

Because when it rains, I carry an umbrella.

And when there’s sorrow, I’ll handle it like any fella.

I’ll move on, I’ll stay strong.

Cuz I know, luv, it won’t be long.

‘Til all our troubles are long gone.

 

I felt a heartache, but I was given love again.

And I realize now,

-this was the one I was meant to fall in.

And luv, I just have one request

Trust me, Whit, and I’ll do my best.

We’re fated to be happy,

So don’t be distressed.

Just keep on fighting…

Fate will do the rest.

Haven't posted a poem in a while, have been busy. This was typed up rather quickly, without any real editing or planning. Criticism is welcome, as I'll likely be editing this later on.

Amazing stanza if I've ever seen one. The flow is perfect, and the last line made me smile. Incredible job, this was one of my favorites. I especially enjoyed seeing something so positive written by a good friend who deserves this outlook on life. Stay strong.

I'm a rather new poet, not really doing poetry until I joined this site a few weeks ago. At the core, I've done freestyle competitions, where rhyming and wordplay is the component that makes you win, so my poems tend to have that a lot. Moreso in the unedited version, that comes straight out. edited later to write in parts that take it offbeat for emotional effect and change it from a rap to an actual poem. I agree that the rhyme scheme is done a lot in this poem, but I think its probably because right now its not a poem, quite yet. It will be, with some editing lol But I definitely thank you for reading this. And I totally agree that the rhyming needs to be...subdued lol Just wanted to explain why that probably is. I don't rhyme intentionally, it just comes out that way naturally. Like a bush, that's yet to be trimmed. Damn rap competitions probably screwed me all up xD
