Identity Crisis of a Fourth Generation Asian American

Identity Crisis of a Fourth Generation Asian American

A Poem by maladroitmacey
"

venting my frustrations regarding out dated forms that don't take into consideration the countless individuals of mixed ethnic backgrounds in Hawaii especially.

"
Half yellow, half white A box provided for each "Please choose only one"
Suppose I am both
Not one over the other
What shall I do now?
Close my eyes and pick?
ini mini miny mo?
I think not my friend
tired of being
caught up in bureaucracy
and out-dated forms
I am proudly both
Not one over the other
Half yellow, half white

Author's Note

This is just me poking fun at the hundreds of forms I've filled out in my life requesting my ethnic background, and demanding that I limit my choice to one or the other.
