Only Silence

Only Silence

A Poem by Hamish McIndlister
"

Love is good and can bring so much to life but when all is said and done even our fondest memories fade into silence and darkness.

"

Dwindling voices

From the past,

Like words written

On the passing trains:

Here now,

But rapidly fading

Into the night.

Words of love

Granted to us

By those to whom

We have given our hearts,

Certain that love

Would last forever,

Standing in the

Face of adversity:

A testament to

The true passion

Of the human heart.

Words of encouragement

Given by family

And friends,

Once real,

But now nothing more

Than a fleeting memory

Of the way things

Used to be.

We grasp at these memories,

Trying to hold tightly

To the emotions

That they once brought,

But realizing

That they are

Now forever gone.

Time passes us my,

Moving on without us,

Leaving us

Standing in the night.

Nothing is real

Nothing is lasting.

Everything fades from us

And eventually we stand alone

With nothing to

Hold on to.

In the end,

There is only silence.
