Petals of an Angel

Petals of an Angel

A Poem by M Walser

blood red petals make the rose

overlapped to make secure

the fragrance deep within

delicate to the touch and

a fragile life span

make it's sentiment priceless

her elegance is untouched but

confidence arrested

under thumbs of manipulation

oppressed by self perception

man made walls

insure her isolated fortress

the stem is thick, sturdy

a broad display of strength

to uphold the elegance above

thorns turn away all who

attempt to draw near

thus the gardener’s blood

is poured out

interpreted as strength

in reality is weak

the gardener prepares a

frosted white glass vase

filled halfway with

God’s nectar of life

the shears clip shut

and sever the lifeline

snip here

snip there

thorns disappear

clearing the way for caress

and admiration

beauty exposed

in dainty white smiles

angelic rose opens wide her

receiving arms

embracing the gardener

that took the time

trimming off the undesirable

thorns

each snip regaining a step

made perfect she’ll die

at the end of her life

tears will dry, while

perfection is frozen in time.
