For a friend on the other side of the world, and all friends who search for their soul-kin.
Your people will come . . .
They will find you one by one,
seeing your soul glisten from a distance,
drawn to your likeness
in the mirrors of their lives.
When you meet one,
you will recognize the congruence, the inner being,
as if you have lived a hundred lifetimes,
paths intertwined.
You will fall in love with life again
basking in the glow of understanding.
Each of them splintered from the same stone,
cast upon the waters
then skipping the ripples,
they will finally settle
in the same riverbed you call your home.
One by one a magnetic pull
will bring them to the center,
stronger than the centrifugal force
that has thrust them away from you.
They will be planets orbiting your sun,
and you will be the stars and the moon
that shine upon each surface,
different manifestations of the same Universal Source,
bound in perfect rhythm and harmony.
When they have all gathered
to teach that you have never been alone,
your soul will shed its existential despair
and rejoice in the fullness of their songs . . .
of life, and love, and seasons past.
You will share your stories around a circle
of sacred fire
and wonder at the forces
that brought you together at last.
Your people will come . . .
They will find you one by one,
and each piece of your shattered heart
will fall in place
and beat strong.
This is such a nostalgic poem. It was like I was in another world as I was reading it ... truly mesmerizing. I loved the metaphors and imagery in this piece, especially the lines "seeing your soul glisten from a distance" and "Each of them splintered from the same stone."
The last stanza topped everything off. I liked the "heart" analogy in the last three lines. It takes a lot of skill to have a metaphor last that long and still keep the poem's integrity. Well done, Marianne.

I would not have thought of the word nostalgic, but you're quite right- that is a good word for that feeling of it being from another era. I appreciate your reflections and praise of the use of metaphor- and your complementary words about skill. Your review is very encouraging and helps me to see what stands out in the poem too for different people. Thank you again!

Sometimes you feel so misplaced where you are. The people who exist with you fail to understand you.
Your soul kins are spread through out the world and you do happen to meet them.
These lines are so beautiful:

The soul friends I have found don't know each other, so they are as different as planets with their own personalities and gifts, and it seems that each is equally uplifted in spending time with me, as I also experience in spending time with them. Someday I hope that all of us will be together in a sacred circle- but that hasn't quite happened yet. Your reading this and reviewing it means a lot to me, as it underscores that this feeling of being separated from those who understand us is something many of us experience, which makes me feel less alone. Thank you.
This poem reminds of a pair of lovers even, who promise to meet each other. They don't see each other for most of their lives, until finally, when one of them is lying on their deathbed, the other sees them. They both stay together until they breathe their last.

I do believe we have soul mates that if we are fortunate enough to find them early on, we can do great things together- far greater than each could do alone. And death, in my mind, is not the end, so even if meeting late, as you suggest, the soul tie they experience is so strong, I believe it can survive death. Thank you for adding this layer of understanding and hope. Your review is so appreciated.
you will fall in love with life again.
this is the crucial line for me.
i know of a few souls that that resonates with me.

This is perfect. So well done. The words speas to me. May I share it on Facebook or print it to send to a friend? I am astonished at how I found this poem, first thing in my search to read others' writings today. Feeling some grief at a loss of friends, it speaks to me, and will heal me because I will come back to re-read it. For now it brings me such hope. Recently, some friends misunderstood my words and try as I might to explain that they misunderstood me, I may never hear from them again. At first I thought, well, they were not really friends if they will not give me a chance to explain, but no, I have decided they were my friends. I should have been more careful with my written words. Some people are more sensitive than others. For me, once friends, always friends and no one can offend me when they share their work with me. I have learned that not all friends are like that. I will look for more of your writing right now. Perhaps there is more that will speak to me from you. Thank you.

But I have a comfort level with conflict and intense emotions that many others don't have. I'm sensitive too, but always feel what is expressed is just part of our humanity- so I give people the benefit of the doubt and assume good intentions, no matter what is said. I've scared some people off with writing that was misunderstood, so now I look for people who have a similar commitment to honesty and loyalty, and understand that there isn't anything that can't be worked through in love. My heart goes out to you. We trigger people in ways we don't know at first, and I guess some people can't transcend their feelings long enough to resolve misunderstandings. Please feel free to post this on Facebook or print it- just include my name and copyright. I hope it helps others to find hope, as it did for you. Thanks for your wonderful review and sharing your experience with me. It probably happens to more people than we know- these rifts in friendships that cause us to lose people, at least for a time. I am a retired nurse, nothing about the body bothers me as its functions are what they are...I call it implicit honesty. I believe in total freedom of speech and like you, in absolute honesty and loyalty. I do have people I trust implicitly with my work. I will continue to read yours as often as possible. Sorry, there is only one posting on my page. I posted a poem early yesterday...Willing Eyes...but for some reason it is not on my page. Will try again later today.
This is a write that reaches to the centre of a heart that has been looking for a sign that he is not alone in this world, that he has meaning to someone... What you are saying is more than an assurance to me that one day, may be years from now when God will think I'm prepared enough to find the people whom I have been searching for a long time each and every single day, I will find them... I know it's not easy to see what's out there in the future but I know the who is the creator of yesterday, today and tomorrow, and He will take care of everything...
I know the forces and spirit of heaven is working to take me to the path where I will find the people I need... Sometimes I do feel broken but I know I will find them and the season of pain will take me to the season of joy... Your words reminds me of a famous quote from Bible "the pain that you've been facing, can't compare to the joy that's coming" (Romans 8:18)...
Thank you for establishing faith and hope in my heart... Your words are enough to heal my heart... I'm hoping for the day when I meet them...

It came as a message to you, then I saw that it is a message I longed to hear at your age. Even after I met Lenny, neither of us could find our people. I even wrote a melancholy song in those days to God . . . "I am searching for your people, but only strangers do I find. I am searching for the friends of Jesus, are they scattered far and wide?" After I posted this, I reflected on how many people I have met that have been searching for their people- it is as if we each belong to tribes that were broken up and scattered around the world, and part of the loneliness is being separated from them for so long. Perhaps part of our journey here on earth is to find our people and reunify the communities that we can rely on as soul families. I am very glad this message has encouraged you to believe, eventually to know without a doubt, that you will be united with those who you belong to. There is nothing quite like that flash of recognition that happens when you meet one of them- usually both of you say something like "I feel I've known you all my life". May we all, eventually, find belonging and acceptance with our communities and circles of friends. Blessings to you, my friend.

I hope one day. We can gather as one. Learn life is simple. We need a safe place to live, food and work.

I understood the message and you are welcome my friend.
Beautifully written, very positive....ok, truth be told I got teary eyed at the optimism, you have no idea how bad I want this to be true for anyone in such a lost feeling, having thought I already felt this feeling once, very very close to so perfectly explaining it, it's just hard to have such thoughts anymore. The rarity of that feeling, that connection, maybe is more rare in some than others? When I don't have my daughter, the darkness deepens, so I'm trying not to be too "Debbie downer" here! I do love it, tremendously, I think it may have hit closer to home than anything else I've read as far as nailing how I view such things. Such a way with words Marianne, as always, I'm so glad to have come upon you and your writings!

I wished that someone would have said this to me when I felt so alone in the world and alien to my own culture and family. I found my husband first, and for a long time then it was just the two of us, feeling alien together. But slowly, as I reached middle age, I started finding them. They don't know each other, and they are all different, resonating with different aspects of my personality and interests. But it has made such a difference to know and continue to find people like me in depth, intensity, vision and values. We really do need each other, but we need to find the ones who are like-minded and match our essential vision of life- not on the surface, but in the soul-depths. Anyway, I appreciate your sharing how you felt with this one, and how the optimism hit you. I want to tell you, and everyone, to keep an eye out- you just never know where and how your soul-kin will appear. Thanks for visiting and sharing your response and feelings.
Whoa, this is beautiful and encouraging. Limned feelings with stunning imagery. I also liked how you repeated the line, "they will find you one by one." Tyfs!
