Just An Ordinary Day

Just An Ordinary Day

A Poem by Marianne Rose
"

Reflecting on the pace of our lives, too fast, too pressurized.

"
Left brain wake up
Numbers, puzzles
Moving fast to
Calculate

Dream-life drifting
Off to side-line
Now it's work time
On the clock

Anesthetic
Half a mind
So I can drive
The pace of life

Slowing once
To notice strangers
Living on a
Dirty street

Heart compacted
Shut to sunlight
Just to keep it
Somewhat safe

Never knowing
Why I'm still going
At this crazy
Common pace

Clock moves forward
Many more of
Sound-bites I can
Integrate

Home so fast
Relief and, gasp!
At last a breath of
Air

Left brain shut down
Right brain wake up
Music, art and
Light

Both now wasted
Packed and pasted
Down to greet the
Night

Words still tumble
Body stumbles
To a rocking
Chair

Like a baby,
Rocking, maybe
Sleep will come
Tonight.

Author's Note

Marianne Rose
I'm ambivalent about whether I should rhyme consistently or let it be okay that sometimes it rhymes, and sometimes it doesn't. What do you think? The change in rhythm once I get "home" is intentional (less syllables)- did you pick that up, and does it convey a change of pace?

It reminds me of the days when I hardly get the time to watch the clock, just waking up and get ready to face the pace of life... The speed of life is invisible, and no one can move with its pace all the time, so we all get behind the race and feel stressed... I think even if when our brain is tired with the pressure of the world there is a part of brain which is still on sing but stays hidden... Beautiful work frnd... I can relate to it so well and deeply...

Sincerely
Dhiman

Good emotion, real and raw and from the gut. Are we too fat? we can rhyme and proselytize better than most, but not actually help? Are we beautiful, but only in the mirror alone, late one night?

doesn't need consistent rhyme, it has a strong rhythm already.

and wow, yes, we seldom have enough time for that part of our mind to play.

reminds me of steven wright saying "when i'm not in my right mind, my left mind gets pretty crowded"--

nicely expressed.
