A Story by MOON

I remember you flying on a bike

Racing and shooting balls on strike

In the dark starry quiet of the room

You all innocence a baby in a womb

Secrets and childhood desires

I could see you setting the world on fire

Then I lost you through the years

I recall all your dreams and little fears

What do we lose grown women and men

Where is the wonder where does the road bend

How do we get trapped in our fathers past

Tell me now childhood never lasts

All too soon we leave this earthly plain

Blood and bullets sorrow on us rain

For a life cut down before autumn leaves

You impaled in a heart that now grieves.

MOON
Henry Scott Holland

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

This is a beautiful & fresh & unexpected message in many ways. It covers a lifetime, it seems, yet you use a few well-selected images to let us SEE what part of the life you're referring to at each point. In the first stanza, I would put the second couplet first, since the baby comes before the bike (just a thought). I like the way you hint at the sorrows in life, but not so graphic that it makes this a bleak read. I'm left with a touch of melancholy at the last two well-crafted lines.

What a beautiful quote...touched me deeply.
I have just lost someone and so this is especially meaningful to me at this time. You have written such an amazing poem here...taking it from the early relationship through to your grief. I don't even know what else to write...deeply moving.

Thank you so much, will stop by soon, take care
No matter how attentive we try to be, live blurs by--and, of course, it's even more fleeting when we're distracted.
Your lovely, profound and melancholy poem deals with many mysterious things; including, tragically, the grievous loss of a loved one.
If only my condolences mattered.

"How do we get trapped in our fathers past

The above lines are true. It seemed we do follow our father's foot-steps. The poem had great meaning. Allowed the reader to ponder many things. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
