Battles

Battles

A Poem by MOON

Fragility lies on the edge of a teardrop

Holding dreams in its delicate hands

You are the mournful call on a quiet night

You are the scream shattering black to white

Washing all sorrow that bleeds the earth

Nerve gas and chemical warfare give birth

In the silence of the dreaded drone attack

Do you heed the face of the evil eye as the whips crack

There are children who fear the sound of your call

There are young men trying to find purpose thinking its war

There are Generals presidents and merchants kicking open the door

There are mothers whose tears refuse to fall

Love was never supposed to be like this

It was never meant to obliterate

Death should be nature calling and accidents of fate

Not the feeding of a war machine not that curse

Fragility held on a knifes edge

Lining suicides on a ledge

We set the stage play the part

Bloody hands and innocence torn apart

It’s ironic that down through history the human struggle over which laws to make and enforce so we may have peace among ourselves has lead to our most devastating wars. Mad dog killer love cults are always coming into being with the logic that they must annihilate all unbelievers to save humanity from itself. In the end, the followers of such cults murder themselves by passing around the Kool Aid. With a Dodo bird mentality, Humans make the absolute assumption that they must kill each other out of “Love” in order to save each other; and this is the logic of species extinction. Love all too often motivates acts of violence. Such cults are convinced that they must crucify all unbelievers out of love in order to save what they assume to be their souls. Big bad cults must kill unbelievers through mass extermination to save ‘em. We only need look at what’s going on in the Middle East to find examples of what I’m talking about.

Wow, I am in awe, dear moon. I totally agree with your point of view. What do wars give us, if not another reason to curse the mankind. My favourite lines would be
"Death should be nature calling and accidents of fate

Not the feeding of a war machine not that curse"

In my library. :)

Not content merely to war against encroaching entropy and our world's fickle stability, we turn against each other, for sport, for power, for the forked-tongue serpent whispering in our ears. The line "Death should be nature calling and accidents of fate" is just magnificent, a too-true sentiment I share wholeheartedly. Excellent poem! :)

Battles are despised, yet they continue, like rats scavaging the earth, feeding on scraps of humanity. I feel with you.

Wow. This is a formidable write - the last stanza especially hit home. Not only is war hell but it is a deeply personal hell

Thank you so much, you too kind but so appreciate the review. Take care
Wars, whether between countries or individuals are so out of tune with the spirit of life. They have been here since the world began and unfortunately will probably always be here. This is so poetically done. You are a fine writer Moon.

Thank you so much , will stop by soon.
War is the nature of the Human condition. We need to improve the human condition. We are preditors even among friends and partners. All of us have to change ourselves first. As the saying goes, we did not get into this in a day, we will not exit it in a day...
