Children of War

Children of War

A Poem by MOON

All morning I await my fate

I hear guns and the sound of bombs

I fear now the hour is late

This my friend is not passing storms

You no longer shadowy forms

But men all black and eyes of hate

I fear your anger and power

Before you now I shall cower

Hold me on this fragile time span

Crush me in your blood spattered hand

I hold no politics no weight

Doomed ideology of State

Civil war will take me at eight

Shed no tears as I fall in strife

Old men play God with this young life

Shut windows of your soul spew hate

War and ego not a child’s ache

Grown men crushing me in their wake

Truly touching poem on so avoided topic of "war". The photo is amazing...I always feel the different realities of people, who are so far away from any God, any human feeling and any "love", they can really destroy the earth. so they start by the most innocent and untouchable - the children...For that they will pay the high price, as nothing can compare to take child`s life. No one can dare to play 'God"...Great piece, and love this lines:
Hold me on this fragile time span

Crush me in your blood spattered hand

I hold no politics no weight

Doomed ideology of State

Thank you , yes sometimes it seems we live in an alternative reality , children should be protected... read more
I remember seeing the body of a 4 year old child on the cover of some magazine back in the 90's during the "ethnic cleansing" in Sarajevo. And I was mortified. I still carry that image. I wanted to reach out and touch the child - wake him. He'd been shot in the back while in his own home....I hated the magazine for publishing that picture - showing me death in such a casual way. His hand placed over his chest and the dried blood still on his cheek, his eyes not quite closed completely.
It makes me rage and seethe. This poem - it kicked me in the soft underparts - well done. WELL DONE.

Thank you for the review! Take care!
Reading this poem, I felt a powerful hand grip my heart and squeeeze every ounce of life from it. I can't bear to think of those little angels and what they did to deserve such fates. At such times we just have to take solace in the hope that there is a better world other than the human world.

My heartfelt compliments on this beautiful, touching poem.

Yes we have become blasé about war and children dying! Yes a safer world ! Take care
And we're to protect them from this insanity, sadly seems impossible. Splendid read and write. Thank you for sharing.

true and unfortunate
You summed it up...children are the true victims of war. Those tiny little girls, pigtails in pink bows, make an oh-so-poignant accompaniment to this brilliant protest piece.
Very well done!!

Thanks Angel for your review , appreciate it take care!
I think we need to feel the suffering of the innocent. You represent their plight well in this poem and point out the blindness of those who should know better. A true heart cry.

Thanks Frieda, take care!
War is pretty sensitive topic to write on.
Moon you did justice, I loved it. Better than which I wrote long back ;)
You did proper justice with feeling of people who feel the pain and agony if war.
Nothing to gain, all pain :(

a heartbreaking piece... no child must witness at such young age the massive effects of war... it's a sad case of reality and facts that humans do over and over in the pages of history and at present times... your voice is heard my friend... truly an eye opener piece...
