Shades of Grey

Shades of Grey

A Poem by MOON

There is no other just you and I

Living with me you thought you would die

A stone at hand and a reason why

Burning in me liberations sigh

A flame of a township in my heart

There is a stage and I have my part

All my shed tears now a work of art

Here is the new dawn here is its start

Nail all my hopes and dreams to a mast

Tell me freedoms song is iron cast

Forget bloody wounds it cannot last

Cold memory a train flashing past

Hear the pain filled drumbeat in the night

Swallow bitter pills of black and white

the last line just made me love this poem

I really enjoyed reading this poem. It has an excellent rhythm to it reinforced by the steady rhyme scheme that echoes in each stanza, and the images evoke a sense of freedom mixed with melancholy, adventure meets misadventure, like you're running to be free but also constantly trapped in that search ("nail all my hopes and dreams to a mast"). Absolutely beautiful; it could definitely be set to music (or make really good spoken word).

very lyrical, i agree: chilling, your words weaving hints of aching memories haunting you, always lingering. beautifully written, enriched with sorrowful beauty. thank you for sharing :)

It seems wistful and sad...such are the wounds of wayward loves and relationships that end on the rocks. I enjoyed the read.

i enjoy this poem
a silvery stream
of dancing light it had me
going going going

Those last two lines really drives home this wonderfully melancholy piece.

Very dark and grim. The pain echoes through every word along with haunting imagery. I feel like I can relate so well. I love it!!
