OnceA Poem by Madelaine
I watch.
I watch her lips tremble, as she speaks of the delight that she calls home. Pupils dilated. Skin shaken, pricks of excitement swelling like buds on her blooming flesh. I watch her voice soar high like a bird Ducking beneath the occasional branch To avoid certain injury. She laughs And so do I We laugh at ourselves And I remember quite slowly As my skin begins to bloom That I, myself Was once in love too
