Plastic Surgery for the SoulA Poem by Bark's LoungeCirca 2008/2009They say there’s no such thing as plastic surgery for the soul They say that you will soon have your day They say your cause means something and is important They say that suffering is growth If I am lonesome for something it is my youth Not in years but the golden age of hope Kings are crowned and castles overthrown Is my treasure buried in yesterday? If I am to forge a victory It will not be because I conquer It will happen because my purist heart Shines bright in the blackout In recognizing failure I recognize my disgrace Although I preach against cutthroats Maybe I have too For this I serve my sentence While happily doing so I refuse to be a hypocrite Even in the face of finality I long for a sniff of the dream To have it’s escense consume my whole If only for a minute Contentment of my tears In the words of the great Marlon Brando I could’ve been a contender, I could’ve been somebody I should have There is no such thing as plastic surgery for the soul © 2018 Bark's Lounge |
