Devil's Illusion

Devil's Illusion

A Poem by Morgan Purcell

My lack of understanding
more than words
Materialistic drive
Neurons fire without a response
Why the blood-thirst for new
Immediately consumed and discarded possessions?
Why the obsessive compulsion for straight lines?
When bends and curves hold windswept novels
Give me natural beauty
But love above all
Earthly chained to colonized bills
Mindlessly swapped
With no lasting gratification
The brief endorphin injection fades
Leaving only the hellish insatiable hunger for more green flesh
The devil himself contently laughs
The illusion nearly convincing all
God gifted life
The very experience stripped of all profound meaning
Reducing a miracle to backstabbing and clawing over deceased trees
Have mercy on us Lord
hedes slight of hand has blinded our hearts
hijacked our senses
Bless the underground revolutionaries
Those who see through the beasts cheap card trick
Fight on Brothers and Sisters
The cause may be lost but remains just.
