Unlightened

Unlightened

A Poem by Morgan Purcell

Sun has moved on to another town
The dim streetlights sullenly awake
Pondering Dostoevsky, forgiveness, time
Continuing to blacken my lungs
Like the streetlights unable to pierce the night
My brain sputters, stalls, unable to shed any light
I search for enlightenment in another drag
The dried leaves have nothing left to share
Jealousy sets in
I end its short but luminous life
Words, Words, Words, but nothing important to share
