A Resolution

A poem about a New Year's resolution, inspired by a deep longing to be with someone in particular.

My New Year's resolution is your fingers tracing my spine

Your lips meeting mine, your tongue running across my lower lip

It is the slight intake of breath you smile at as you pull my hair back

and kiss my neck.

My New Year's resolution is our fingertips brushing

Your breath in my ear as you whisper ten thousand sweet nothings

It is the way your eyes close when you kiss me and the way you say

I love you.

My New Year's resolution is the way you say good morning

Your voice groggy with sleep and too many embraces

It is the steps we take that resemble a dance as I make you breakfast

and you rub my shoulders.

My New Year's resolution is your soft smile and your twinkling eyes

Your arms wrapped around my waist as you kiss me goodbye

It is the promise that rests on your tongue but never has to escape to assure me

that you'll be back soon.

My New Year's resolution is the way the door closes gently

Your footsteps padding down the hall

It is me biting my lip and wrapping my arms around myself, smiling

remembering my only resolution;

you.

These words brought across feelings of calm, peaceful, sweet and happy. The scene transitions through the steps of a night and into the morning, as it does the piece goes from feeling kinda giddy, into that of tranquility.
I would think that what you have created here could be an every day type of interaction, it would be a wonderful way to live in my opinion.
