ReflectionA Story by MayaShort story about misconception.
A young woman named Henrietta Arnold is on her way to work when she realizes that she can't find the keys to her office. She goes back into the convenient shop where she was last, and asks the clerk if he found a set of keys. The clerk says, “No, but leave your phone number, and if anybody brings them in, I'll call you.”
While she writing her information down, she looks in the mirror behind the clerk, and sees the reflection of the clock on the wall. She then and realizes that she has fifteen minutes to make it to work, but she's a half an hour away.
She goes to work and asks the maintenance man to open the door to her office. Her boss then approaches her at work and asks her why the maintenance man is unlocking the door for her. She explains to him that she couldn't find her keys and that she's late because she lost track of time looking for them.
Her boss started to laugh. She asks him what is so humorous. He tells her to turn around. When she turns around she sees her reflection in the large window that was behind her. Around her neck was her company issued lanyard, with the key to her office.
Her boss says Henrietta, if I ever wanted to hide something from you, all I gotta do is place it in front of your nose. She laughs and agrees.
As he walks away he stops and asks her, “When you looked at the time Henrietta, were you by any chance looking at it in a mirror? You're fifteen minutes early.
She blushed when she realized her error.
He shakes his head and says, “It's funny how a mirror can both assist and deceive at the same time.
Henrietta then asked him, “So where do we find the truth then?”
Her boss then took a pen and wrote the words MIH HTIW, and handed it to Henrietta.
She looked at the letters that didn't make any sense. He told her to hold it up to the window.
Henrietta smiled as she looked past the note, and up into the sky.
