Fred

Fred always had wanted to walk in the woods
but he soon realized he knew not where he stood
The woods were alive with the sound of the breeze
was a whispering sound far above in the trees

Saw a deer by a pond, it was taking a drink
he stood there and watched, but knew not what to think
as a sneeze left his nose, the deer ran away
he followed it, watching it's woodland ballet

Soon his attention was drawn to the fact
that he no longer knew which way to go back
spooked by a noise in the dark up ahead
he turned down a path caring not where it led

The woods came alive beneath moonlights dim haze
he might have kept running for many of days
but off in the distance, where he could not see
voices he recognized, his family

He heard everyone, Mom and Dad and the kids
each of them sounding like they'd flipped their lids
As their voices got closer the faster he ran
Till he heard his Mom saying "There's our little man!"

As he ran up to them, he lay down on the ground
so happy he was that his Family he'd found
they each pat his head as they went off to bed
one more day in the life of a puppy named Fred
