We Were Made to BreatheA Poem by MF.Womack
At the end of the day the most faithful question always remains
Our wayward minds scale mountains to find The pinnacle of truth and time Alas! With a gasp, as always when reason comes to pass In our minds we can see why it is we're made to be Why our running feet kick up clouds of dirt Why hatred masks love on this earth Lies cloud our sight The truth we aren't meant to see: We were made to breathe Do as you wish Count the seconds, minutes, hours None of it will give you power Your wrist watch and tick tocks are nothing more Than a metronome setting pace to the symphony that is life The music you must face Across smoke filled rooms we glance away But all the words those sly looks convey Linger in the air and seep into our skin We sit there, breathing it in Even when the air is empty in the thick black night That yesterday springs forth and with it a sigh The lingering scent of where your lover slept The true measure of your lungs' depth The warm familiar wisp of baking sweets Smog clinging to city streets Joy in your loved ones' eyes The kind that makes the corners of your mouth rise Be it relief or surprise Remember the gasp of breath it was followed by Never forget... We came into this world the same as we leave We were made to breathe
