PantherA Poem by MNeilsenEach of us have many roles or views of ourselves
Green eyes follow their prey
Sleek black fur crouched watching
My quarry sensing danger moves away
Whiskers twitch I prepare to spring
I am a Hunter
Alert, my eyes scan the area
As I do every day
Searching for lurking danger
Guarding my family, they must be safe
I am a Protector
Lean muscle and razor sharp teeth
My claws are the deadliest around
Fear will enter your heart if you see me
As we both know how quickly I can put you in the ground
I am a Panther
Night is falling and I hear my name
Leaving my post with a yawn and a stretch
I set off hoping to find my home ever the same
Over my dinner on this day I will reflect
I am Bagheera
A hand reaches down scratches behind my ear
Before she walks over to fill my dish
I follow passing the sisters who wish I were not here
It is her, my owner, that I protect and miss
I am her Midnight
Until tomorrow
When I will be a Panther once more
