Synthetic BeautyA Poem by Mario ClaiborneA poem discussing the use of cosmetics, and perhaps why they are best not used, or at least used at a minimum. From use of oils, of creams, of powders and dyes Have generations formed an image of beauty, But what external source is it worth to hide the Beauty that does underlie? Beneath castoreum, wax base, and iron rust, Beneath toxic arsenic and colored mineral. Beneath all this is the countenance that is just Purely, simply beautiful. Why then must cosmetics be used, why must this be? Why, when your initial endowments enthrall me, Do you apply only more unnatural substance, Just more synthetic beauty?© 2015 Mario Claiborne |
