Musing on a tiny spider (2007)A Poem by MC BlodeuweddAt work one day I decided to write my observations of a tiny spider in my cubicle. I ramble a bit.
I saw the most curious little spider today
Climbing on everything on my desk from one end to the other and back again. Every little thing did it explore, every paper, every single post-it note from corner to edge. Even the one i write upon now. How many times do you try again and again to crawl into my computer to no avail? Running in fast at the neck, where the monitor meets the stand. You left your marking on my time sheet, a great way to say "Same s**t, different day" to the the workplace. You climbed the small stuffed bear and the wallet photo of my child framed with his obit. I could hear him giggling along with me at your quickness and curiosity. It almost made me think you could be his spirit reincarnated- A crawling curious toddler. Now you're back to those millions of post-its placed randomly yet strategically on my desk. The one on the monitor stand with a slight rip, you walk the tear like a cliffs edge. You move rapidly, almost falling off the steep end of my desk, but you witty spider- you catch yourself using your spun thread. Time and again do you do this. You'll disappear to some dark shadow behind my computer or books and I'll wonder what happened to my little friend. I'm delighting in your quiet company. I wonder, to you, just maybe half a centimeter in size, what would be equivalent to a mile for us? Perhaps a bout a foot? 12 inches equally approximate to 12 blocks? And yet you cross that foot length in a second flat! Just when I think you're gone, for you disappeared for at least 5 minutes, you reappear mid-air to the right of my head! god! You scared me! You were crossing from one wall of my cubicle to another at a diagonal parallel to my computer and how I sit. How DO you shoot the web so far across like that? It's a good 3 feet in length at least. Oh how some miracles of nature never cease to amaze me. © 2011 MC Blodeuwedd |
