Big Friend and Little FriendA Poem by Marina AlexandrovaIt was spring, or maybe autumn. There was a little white hat, And a big, safe, worn brown jacket. Big Friend and Little Friend were standing hand in hand, Looking out onto the world.
Soft hand in weathered hand, what were they thinking about? No one quite knew. But the sparrows knew, as did the cranes flying over the water, For they were building their family home with their nest. Little Friend sensed that this was the natural order of things, As Little Friend was wise in his years though his years were few.
Big Friend was thinking about this too. But Big Friend knew about the harshness of life like Little Friend yet didn’t. A silent tear was falling with the knowledge of the lack in the little one’s life. He knew what was important and pure, like very few big friends still really did, For Big Friend's mind hadn’t been polluted by the big world ways.
Little did Big Friend realise that, as he stood there silently teaching about the world, The warmth of his hand was already one half of what Little Friend needed. Little Friend would always remember this day As the day he realised that, with Big Friend around, life
might just be worth living. © 2015 Marina AlexandrovaAuthor's Note
