THE FLOGGING

THE FLOGGING

A Poem by M.Joseph Black

What shall we do with the drunken sailor?

Spread him like an eagle

Bull whip! Lash! Bull whip!

You bring disgrace to your fleet you do

Drinking rum and whiskey neat

You’ll be keel hauled for your behaviour

And take a flogging for your labour

What shall we do while the sailor sleeps?

Quietly drain the barrels

Hose the deck, wash the deck

Let the beggar snore

Burst the barrels and scrub some more

While he sleeps we’ll experiment

And decide a fitting punishment

What shall we do when the sailor awakes?

Spread him like an eagle

And flog him for his life

Pour whiskey and rum on his bleeding welts

Then flog him again with buckles and belts

Rub in salt for extra pain

Then sit

And wait

‘til he drinks again

flogging.... I guess it doesn't have to only take place on a ship... so it's the drinking, not so much the flogging eh?

Like your piece UnAble, another great portraiture. This one is a bit more specific and it's pace moves like the buckles and belts flogging. Seems like you just jump in for the ride and it's over. Good stuff.
