SAMSON AND DELILAH

SAMSON AND DELILAH

A Poem by M.Joseph Black

My thoughts on the bus

Are interrupted by

The incessant laughing

Screaming and hoohaa-ing

Of school people

Prima Donna’s one and all

Each acting out scenario’s

Of their own youthful mating games

The Boys: shoulders raised, chests puffed out

Strangle first years with striped ties

Whilst casting smug smiles

To young, impressionable, impressed

Nymphet's.

The Girls: giggling and preening

Whilst continually texting,

Look upon their hero’s with all the naivety

And awe in the world,

Egging them on in their recklessness

All harmless fun

All harmless rituals

Until home again

A clip round the ear for the boys.

In for a week for the girls

Too much tobacco

Too much makeup

Stripped of their convenient maturity.

The only real victors of this love dance;

The strangled first years

But will they ever learn

From other peoples growing up?

Interesting title to this piece, apropos. Short snaps, glances and impressions of the riders, like looking out the exhaust grimed windows while passing parked cars. Efficient writing with tons of information. Well done.
