Ch 6

Jianyu stood before the assembled ranks of High Gods and Heavenly Soldiers. “Drive them back to the sea, but kill as few as you can.”

Angry muttering rose like a wave.

“The Second Prince of the Merfolk, Xidi has taken upon himself the duty of guarding the palace and the city in our absence has asked us to spare as many of his people as possible.”

The mutter lessened, but lingered in the air. 

“Xidi is the honorary uncle of Lady Xun, who rescued every one of you High Gods from destruction at the hand of the King of the Merfolk. Prince Xidi agreed to these terms because of his love for her, if he had not the army would have been crushed and the people of the city slaughtered. Will you dishonor this bargain with him now?”

The army and the High Gods quieted.

“Drive them back into the sea, kill as few as possible, and bring the head of the King of the Merfolk to me!”

The army roared its approval.
