The scream behind the silence

The scream behind the silence

A Poem by LylaCrystal

You look around and observe
In silence.
You listen to what others say
In silence.
You want to speak, but you choose to stay
In silence.

You are too afraid, are you?
You don't want to be judged.
You're sick of hearing
'Just snap out of it',
'Others have it worse than you',
'It's just a phase. It will pass.'

You stay in silence,
Trying to hide the scream.
The scream of help.
You think you won't be understood,
That you will be a burden,
That nobody cares.

You wear a mask which says
Three words: 'I am fine'.
You try to smile,
But I know one thing for sure:
Deep down,
Behind the silence, there is a suppressed scream.

Please, take my hand, beautiful soul.
Come to me.
Stay by my side.
Don't be ashamed. Don't be afraid.
Give up your disguise.
I want to know you better.

Tell me more about yourself.
About what pains you,
About what scares you,
About disturbs you.
It's hard, I know,
But I want you to trust me

I won't laugh about your fight.
Don't bear such a burden on your own.
I can't promise I will fix all your problems,
But I promise you won't face them alone.
I want to help you, dear soul.
Will you take my hand?

You are not a dissapointment,
You are a treasure.
Don't think you are unimportant,
You matter to me.
Your feelings matter to me.
Your fight matters to me.

Take my hand, beautiful soul.
You are not alone.
I will help you find
The peace in chaos,
The happiness in storm,
The light in darkness.

Because I can hear
The scream behind the silence.

Author's Note

LylaCrystal
Recently, I have read an article about depression and I got the idea for this poem. I noticed that a big problem in our world is that we don't actually look at a person deep in his or her soul. We always concentrate on the appearance, but pay little attention at the essence. We tend to judge very quickly, but we don't know what is hiding behind every laughter, every smile, every fast said speech or silly jokes. I realised that we sometimes are so focused on ourselves, that we forget about those around us. We don't think that maybe someone needs our help. For us, a few nice words don't seem to mean very much, but for someone who is suffering, they may mean a salvation. We should learn to lend a helping hand when we see a person in need, to offer a small part of our time to listen carefully to someone who has problems, because these gestures have a great signification. The time we spend like this won't come back, but we have the satisfaction that it was spent with use.
Take care of yourselves and help those who are down and can't get up. Thank you :)

I don't think there can be anything more comforting than such words and a person, with an open-ended and open-mind, to listen, and listen, and perceive without judging in the bad times of despairs.
I wish there are more such people to prevent us from being into a state, called 'Depression' , which only increase if there's nobody around to care, pamper, perceive and respect us and our situation😊

I applaud you for writing this piece, this needs to be read heard and imbibed in a world, which is so quick to judge others, despite the fact that they haven't ever been in other's shoes.

Indeed! Silence often has a scream behind it, that needs to be listened.and not ingored to an extent thatvit becomes fatal and a reason behind someone's annoyance.

This piece is beautifully written.
In silence some scream louder than others that actually scream in awareness of others.
In silence some are more angry than the others that actually show their anger.
In silence some are so sad that their smile represents sadness.
It only takes people that are the insiders of your heart to understand your silence.
Wonderful poem dear.

The poem touched my heart and you have written it so beautifully!
You stay in silence,

Trying to hide the scream.

The scream of help.

You think you won't be understood,

That you will be a burden,

That nobody cares.
My favorite lines.
Yes indeed we all should look out and try to look in the minds of others . Depression is not just a phase it can consume the person if not helped in time, I really like the message behind the poem.

I love this! To suffer in silence can be a long hard road, but a helping hand can make all the difference. This world would be a better place if more people cared about others. Thanks for sharing!
