Chapter 2

Chapter 2

A Chapter by LylaCrystal
"

The moment Faye encounters Shadow

"
"How could this happen to us?" Asher said faintly.
"Hey, we've done everything possible for us. I still can't believe we were defeated." Noah yelled.
"Those guys almost killed us. Moreover, Edra was on the brink of the grave. Her face is pale and cold."
"I'm sure everything will be alright. She's a strong girl."
The Nightfall team was returning from Herun Kingdom, where they had to find The Moon's Wolves, a secret organisation of assassins. It didn't matter if their targets were simply civilians or part of the royalty, their aim had to be fulfilled: to kill. The one who made their name more infamous than in the previous years was Shadow. This was the "nickname" given to the most cold-blooded assassin from their organisation. He was the youngest member, but had the strenght of all the other teammates combined. He never failed in his missions. He was feared by everyone, including the men from the organisation. They never saw how he looked like. The teenager was always wearing a black hooded cape and a black mask. He was never talking. The only thing he did was obeying the orders. The only time when he attacked his targets was at night. In only a few seconds, he managed to do his job. Silently, unnoticed. He was disapearing like a shadow when the light was shining on it.
Faye's friends had been searching for these assassins the whole kingdom for almost three days, but without any result. When they got into the Forest of Venom, the place which separated Filaria and Herun, they were ambushed. Everyone tried his best to cope with them, but it wasn't as easy as in other times. The assassins had their well prepared tricks. Even if Edra was very sure on her powers, this time the luck wasn't on her side. One of her enemies immobilized her and shoved the top of a small bottle into her mouth. Something like blood trickled out. Edra spat and coughed desperately, but she felt several drops of the liquid slide down her throat. That was the moment when everything turned black for her. Much to their surprise, the Moon's Wolves retreated, leaving them in the middle of the forest without any ways to exit. It was impossible for someone who entered in this forest to come out. Faye was the only one who did that. Her friends whould usually use Edra's ability to teleport where they had to go. Now, without it, they were stuck like in a maze. The only thing they could do was to pray for the life of princess.
"I still wonder whose fault is it." Blake said in a matter-of-fact voice, glancing at Faye.
"What's your problem?" the girl asked infuriated.
"Tell me just one thing. What were you doing when Edra was attacked?"
"I was fighting. What was I supposed to do?"
"Because of you, that scum made her swallow the Kirin. Do you know what are its effects? I'll tell you: the one who drinks it, loses his or her powers. Sometimes this can be for the rest of the life. Let's hope she gets her abilities back soon."
"So what's my fault in this?"
"Faye, Blake, calm down a lil' bit." Noah said, going between them.
"Shut up!" the two yelled at unison.
After a few minutes, the team arrived in a glade. It was a good place to camp for the night.
"Stuck in this damn forest, without food or water, under the clear sky... Faye Lian, you're amazing." Blake started again.
The purple haired girl didn't listen to him and started to gather woods to set a fire. It wasn't the first time when she was arguing with Blake. He made like a habit to blame her for every mistake. He was three years older than her, so he was thinking that he could say what he wanted to her. She got used to it. She listened patiently his insults, but never fought back. It seemed useless to her. In fact, she was always ordering herself not to care about.
"Firewoods? At least you do something useful for today." the gray haired boy said sarcastically.
"Whatever." Faye muttered for herself.
"Please, can you stop?" Rishima shouted.
Faye didn't say a word and grabbed two stones. She kneeled in front of the pile of woods and tried to make fire by hitting the stones. After three attempts, she made it.
"Are you retarded? You could've just asked me to use my fire wielding power." Blake said.
"I'm sorry, Your Highness, but I didn't want to waste your precious time with such a simple task." Faye said, bowing in a teasing manner.
"You're such an idiot..."
"Guys, stop it already!" the others shouted.
Blake couldn't abstain anymore and grabbed Faye by her hair.
"Who do you think you are, moron?"
"Holy God, Blake!" Zev screamed and jumped behind his back.
"Let me go!"
"Dude, what is wrong with you? You can't do this to her! In fact, what has she ever done to you?"
Rishima went at her friend's side, helping her to get up. In that moment, it started to rain very heavy, extinguishing the fire.
"See, Noah? She caused this rain."
"Buddy, the sky was already clouded."
Faye couldn't take it anymore. With a slow move, she snapped her fingers, causing a lightning to strike Blake. Everyone started to laugh at the funny sight. Blake had his hair electrified in all directions.
"If you really hate me that much, than why don't you just take care of the team?" Faye suggested.
"Great idea. We don't even need you."
These harsh words were like daggers for the girl's heart.
"Good bye then." Faye said, flying away.
"Faye, come back! We need you! Don't listen to him!" Asher shouted at her.
It was pointless. She flew deeper in the forest and supported her back against a tree. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.
"It's not fair. He always makes fun of me and criticises me. He's so annoying! It's been already five years. In his opinion, I always make mistakes. I'm a human, it's natural, but at least I try to correct them."
Tears started to form in the corners of her eyes and then slid down her cheeks. Faye touched her face and realised that she was crying.
"Why everything has to be so difficult for me? It's enough that I lost my family. I don't want to lose my friends, too."
"Poor you." a harsh voice said.
"The heck? Who is there? Show your face, you creep!"
She took a few steps and took out her gun. How could someone be possibly out almost at midnight in such a place? It was no doubt that she had been followed the entire time. In that moment, she felt her heart drop in her stomach. A dark, tall silhouette was sitting against a tree. Faye could swore that whoever it was, was staring at her. Her hands were literally shaking and sweating. In a matter of seconds, the silhouette dashed towards her and took her gun. The girl didn't even have time to blink or breathe. When she looked at her hands, she realised that her weapon was missing.
"What the hell? That's impossible..." she muttered to herself.
Faye thought that enough was enough and she had to find a way to escape. Suddenly, she felt nails digging into her shoulders. The girl turned her head hesitantly and saw that the person from earlier.
"Help me! Somebody, please help me! A mad man is trying to kill me!" she scremed desperately.
Faye was struggling to get away, but the stranger hit her in the head with the gun.
"Help... me..." Faye whispered before she passed out.
The silence of the night was broken by an evil chuckle. The stranger was Shadow himself. He uncovered his face to have a better look at his victim.
"So fragile and helpless... The perfect prey." he thought to himself.
The young assassin gripped her waist and legs and disappeared into the forest, proud of his capture.
