Demons

Demons

A Poem by Lykos
"

Liquid disaster

"
Our hearts are like little monsters
Inside us like permanent squatters
That's why our ribs are cages
Holding back the internal rages

You can't drown out the demons
There are so many reasons
One is they know how to swim
Leaping out at every whim

Help doesn't sit at the bottom of a bottle
Just a person that is cruel and awful
Quick to violence when he gets mad
Changing straight from good to bad

You keep flooring back the pint
Even though you know it's not right
Its clear to you the outcome that follows
Back here tomorrow to drown your sorrows.

I believe Alcohol is the cage that doesn't allow us to release are demons , only contain them. " That's why our ribs are cages ,Holding back the internal rages ." I love the imagery here , its like I can see demons reaching out from inside someone. My only question is this a personal piece ? Either way , well done

A flooring slam, mate... Comparing our hearts to squatters... Utter brilliance in that alone... The rest follows in crude violence... Hope I know how to swim... Cause this threw me in the deep end...
