storm

storm

A Poem by Lydia Blackwell

tar clouds patch

white of sky

rain funnels in

through terrestrial eye

expectant

hush

dull groan of earth

rattles dark air

preparing for birth

shake the panes

lift the lens

snap

the wind

then

reassemble

forming like ink

spattered on page

restlessly smitten

by interminable rage

crushed by water

over their heads

tender shoots lie

in their blackened beds.
