another april

another april

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

Family gathered around the television, 1950-60s Our beautiful pictures are available as Framed Prints, Photos, Wall Art and Photo Gifts

against the azure blue of the april sky
i thought i saw you
it must have been you
still alive in my memories
frozen in time
hell, we are practically the same age now
diamonds still dance in your green eyes
though my sapphire eyes are a bit teary
just remembering
marzipan cakes
candles willing wishes to come true
dutch birthday songs
sung off key, but ever filled with love
yes, there was always love
oh, and old spice
        (or was it aqua velva?)
so i lift my glass of water
(yup, it is still stained with red lipstick)
after all, i am the last one standing
i swallow the lump in my throat
wishing us all…the april babies...
the courage to smile through another year

Another year and another marzipan cake (whatever happened to them?)
Many happy returns in the millimeter clicking another digit onto your account and may all the days until the next one have an added spring in your step and may you always have the energy to shock these younger folk by jumping in puddles and smiling as you walk on from your gobsmacked audience (well, where's the fun in doing what they expect you to do?)
Now, make sure you keep your hairdryer handy, for both the soggy feet from jumping in puddles and it also helps blow out all those pesky candles! 😃

Well, that's what they're there for! 😃
A beautiful write Lydi**. Your words reminded me so much of my own home in the fifties and sixties. I particularly remember lipstick kisses. The stain left on my young cheek. You have given me many thoughts of my mum and dad this morning. Thank you.
